State Health Lawmakers Digest Continuing Care Model

State Health Lawmakers Digest Continuing Care Model - A terrific primer for legislators on continuing care for addiction. Great advocacy tool.

No deaths, but no relaxing

No deaths, but no relaxing - 130 deaths in the first 4 months of the year in Wayne County. They're pleased with their education efforts. I've heard a lot about their education efforts about the dangers of Fentanyl, but I haven't heard a single word about increased access to treatment or detox services. Appalling.

Refuge Art Gallery

Refuge Art Gallery - Found this this morning. I hope that it becomes a place of hope and celebration. This kind of thing simultaneously excites me and gives me a slightly queasy feeling. I worry about these things becoming hubs of patronizing head-patting that end up diminishing faith in the capacity of recovering people to achieve full recovery and participation in community life.

Religious communities and addiction

Community organization has got to become a bigger part of working in addiction treatment. We have to reconnect with the communities in general and faith communities are an important part of that. We can raise the awareness of these communities and they can share their needs and resources. See: Religion a route for some to kick substance abuse

New adolescent treatment report

The RAND Corporation released a report entitled: The Relative Effectiveness of 10 Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment Programs in the United States. It's based on finds from SAMHSA's Adolescent Treatment Models project. From a cursory review, they characterize the programs as "highly effective" based on pre/post AOD use. However, they appear to have found few differences between the outcomes of these programs and "treatment as usual".

How pessimistic can you get?

Pessimism about the capacity for recovery has hit a new low with these two articles: Pre-release prisoners 'may be given re-tox' and Give them all the crack they want.
